Small Company Marketing

There's a lot of mystery about marketing but it really is quite simple. You need to identify your customers, tell them your story how THEY want to hear it, and measure the results. We've run small businesses for over 20 years and we've developed a range of marketing tools - fact sheets, audio-visual programmes, white papers, workshops and 1 to 1 advice to help you based on what we've found useful. Some of them are descibed here. Some are free and some we charge for.

You can find some other useful materials under Resources - if you look at the marketing and internet marketing pages there you'll find some of the best marketing books we know recommended with a link straight through to Amazon. You can also find our list of the top 12 business books here

There are a huge range of tools available to get this story across from ads in the local press, to exhibition stands, to mailshots, to website and keyword advertising. You need to work out a good overall set of actions that combine online and offline tools to leverage your selling efforts. A typical solution might look something like this

Next Public Workshops

Punch above your Weight

We’ve talked to several early adopter small companies during our current research programme who have become quite sophisticated in how they use on-line and web 2.0 techniques to help them punch above their weight and look more substantial to the outside world.

So we’ve created a hands on workshop for you to learn how to use these tools in your own business.

We’ll show you how to:

discover the all important key-words that you need to develop your story and connect you with your customers in their language

We’ll use examples from our early adopters to show how everyday businesses are using these techniques to Punch above their Weight.

The next workshop is at the Hub, 5 Wormwood St , London, EC2M 1RQ on September 16th and at the Hurtwood Inn, Peaslake near Guildford on 31st July

You can book here - it's £135 + VAT for the day. This includes a morning theoretical session and an afternoon hands-on session where you can choose between focusing on blogging or on adwords. The price includes a 178 page e-book and membership of the Punch above Your Weight alumni community.

The project is a collaboration between Brunel Business School and www.Howtodobusiness.com

You can book your place by following this link.

And if you can't come buy the e-book!

We believe that you have to see your web-site as the heart of your promotional activity - whether you are selling from it, using it to show what you can do or simply using it to qualify potential customers to the next stage of the selling process. You need to get people to go to the site - we recommend a combination of blogs, networking, and pay per click.

So we've written a 97 page e-book covering how to use the power of the internet and whatever marketing skills you have to appear much bigger than you really are. You achieve this by setting up a network of materials on the internet which all point into the one focal point, your home web-site.

You can feed the traffic by PR, by networking, by writing articles in places where they will be found, by building inbound links from collaborators web sites and by pay per click. You can magnify your activities by using a Squidoo Lens.

You can create and moderate a membership forum in places like Ecademy and you can set up a blog which you can spread far and wide via RSS (really simple syndication). Market OnLine! tells you how to do all this and more for only £17.65
